Thank you very much to today's guests on Town Talk, Tom Laramie who came in to tell us all about Friday Night Live in Ravensdale Community Centre which will run for 7 weeks starting on 17th Sept. Its a locally produced variety show, and they are looking for young and old to come and show their talents................Eamonn O Boyle - who spoke to us over the phone about the second round offers for college places and also what options are open to students...................... Thanks also to Brigitte Nelson - Secretary Wellington Hall Project, who came in to tell us all about the new restoration plans for Wellington Hall in St Marys Road which was built way back in 1812. Their is a launch night for the Wellington Hall Project on Friday 3rd September 2010 at 7.00pm in the hall.

Sports Radio For Peace Launch and recording in Dundalk

The Enda McGuill Suite in Oriel Park was the venue for the launch of Sports Radio for Peace on 24th August. Representatives from soccer, gaelic, ice hockey and athletics attended and took part in a lively discussion hosted by Dundalk FM's Michael Duffy. The first in the series of 10 programmes will be broadcast on Saturday 4th September at 2pm and available on www.dundalkfm.com as a podcast.

Cross Border Sports Radio Series to launch in Dundalk

A unique series of ten sports programmes will take place over the next few months courtesy of Dundalk FM

in collaboration with Sports for Peace programme. These sports programmes will invite some of the

prominent heads of sports societies both in the North of Ireland and the border counties to discuss

how sport has been a key factor to finding peace in Ireland. The panel will consist of four members

of different sports organisations that have experienced first hand the problems that exist while trying

to bring communities of various ethnic, religious or political backgrounds together to play sport,

they will speak of the various projects they undertook and how the became successful and what strides

they had to take in order to ensure they remained a success.

 

The first of these programmes combined with the offical launch will take place next Tuesday 24th August

at 7:30pm in the Enda McGuill suite, Oriel Park on the Carrick Road.

 

Members of local sports organisations will be attending to ensure to put questions to the panel and to

experience a unique sporting project taking place. The programme will then be broadcast on

Dundalk FM 100 and  on community radio stations troughout Ireland and Northern Ireland.

Members of the public are welcome to join the audience.

 

Sports Radio for Peace is supported by the European Union’s PEACE III programme as awarded

Dundalk FM members attending the August Members Meeting in Partnership Court. They discussed the forthcoming Sports Radio for Peace  series of ten radio programmes featuring local sports people from Co Louth and N. Ireland. The launch will be in the Enda McGuill suite, Oriel Park on Tuesday 24th August at 7.00pm and will be followed by the recording of the first radio programme. Members of the public and representatives of sports clubs are invited to attend. Also discussed was a celebration for the awarding of the 10 year contract to Dundalk FM, the launch of a 'Friends of Dundalk FM' monthly draw and a First Cut CD to promote local bands.

Members at the meeting were

Daria Ní Fhaoláin and Niamh Kirk - First Cut show for Dundalk bands and musicians - Fri 6pm and repeated Sat 9pm.

Eddie Sherry - Friends and Neighbours - easy listening programme - listen out for a special tribute show to Rita Cruz in September - Wed 1pm.

Jason Kelly - Rehab Care on Air (Mon 5pm) and contributor/sound desk Mid Week Sports View (Wed 4pm),  the Sports Academy (Sat 4pm) and sound man on match nights for the Oriel Commentary team.

Tom Gernon - Rock around Dundalk Thur at 5pm and Back to the Sixties Sun 6pm.

Sean Callaghan - Around the Town Tue 5pm and Wed 6pm.

Peter Carroll - Evening Duty Manager, Dundalk FM and No Requests presenter - eclectic music show Thur 6pm.

 

Members Meetings take place every two months - the next meeting is on 14th December in the Community Offices, Park Street at 7pm.

New members are always welcome.

Thanks very much to today's guests on Town Talk.........Donna Campbell - Citizens Information Centre, who spoke to us about the winter fuel allowance.....................Brian Warfield - The Wolfe Tones, who spoke to us about the last 46years with The Wolfe Tones and also about their gig in The Fairways Dundalk on Sunday 8th August. We will have 2 more tickets to give away on the show tomorrow!!.............Thanks also to John Mathews from Dundalk People's Centre for Info and Training for coming in to tell us about their School Book Club.
